What ar the freelance mobile earphone shops promoting in the tally up to Christmas?

So, on my travels this Dec, I’ve been checking out retail estate in the UK, specifically pertaining to the mobile carriers (see here and here). I got a bit of time to check out a twosome of independents in the mobile earphone retail space though – namely Carphone Warehouse, and Phones4U. For those of you that don’t live in the UK, these ar two of the major chains, and as such are responsible for selling a good proportion of the devices/contracts that ar purchased outside of the aircraft carrier channels.

Carphone Warehouse

CW adopted a different strategy to some of the other retailers I visited recently, as they rich person gone back to the strategy of bundling in other things you mightiness wish which are not mobile-related, along with your contract. Case in distributor point: Sony PS3 and Nintendo DS Lite ar available free with certain combos of device and contract bridge. Interestingly, this scheme (which was all the rage a twosome of years ago) is single they ar pursuing on TV advertisements also – along with a sort of deconstructed Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)-esque touchscreen stylus (you’d rich person to see it, for it to make horse sense – my verbal description isn’t that great!).

Phones4U

Phones4U were more predictable – they were push a twosome of deals when I passed by, and they felled seam in to the same category as many of the carrier shops – one-half-decent handset plus lower monthly line rental – but I suspect, a long contract full point. At any pace, nothing nous-blowing, and not hugely surprising for an independent to steer clear of handsets that ar exclusive to networks, or rich person a whacking great price tatter attached.

In summary then, it should be interesting to see which mobile aircraft carrier/freelance retailers winnings the Xmas struggle to get the most connections – I’m not sure we’ll get that information as a comparator between them, but in January the stats volition beginning rolling in from each aircraft carrier about the goodness business they did. Any thoughts on who will be triumphant?
