A little over a calendar month ago, you may remember us mailing regarding the Nokia C6 organism In Stock here at mobiles.co.uk. Well, if the latest rumours, snapshots and modelling number are to be believed, the Nokia C6 already has a successor in the line; the Nokia C6-01. The confusing appointment conventions adopted recently by the finns ar not only causation mix-up amongst the populace but also with networks too it would seem given that the news leak which comes from Vivacom, a Bulgarian meshwork provider, was spotted by bird of Jove eyed viewing audience of an advert which pictured the C6-01 in an advert for the C6-00.

The C6-01 was also spotted on Nokia’s Dutch people Online shopfront along with spectacles that would point towards the C6 losing it’s QWERTY keyboard, gaining an 8 megapixel camera in office of the 5 megapixel on the stream modelling and is also said to be sporting Symbian^3 OS where the current is stuck running on Symbian S60. The C6-01 is also said to have a nHD blind as wellspring as 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. Surely then, the C6-01 would be more of an upgraded option, than a successor – reverse to what the appointment conventions would indicate.

Aside from the aforementioned specification changes, it would appear that the Nokia C6-01 remains very similar to the original, still retention an almost identical shape, although with slightly redesigned hardware keys on the facing and a re-worked backrest which includes a relocated camera, a Dual light-emitting diode flashbulb and a speaker. Leontyne Price is said to be around 280 Euros and we expect the functionary announcement from Nokia to be around the time of Nokia World 2010 on Sep 14th. (Image from MobileGeek via Engadget)

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz was officially launched shoemaker’s last week to much hullabaloo and flourish and for goodness understanding; this smooth and stylish touchscreen earphone is backpacking 720p HD video recording capture. Quite the party piece I think you’ll agree, but how does the Vivaz form up as an all libertine? What’s it like to live with? Well, that’s what we aim to tell you over the next few years with our in-depth review of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. In part 1, we’ll takings a looking at the designing, physique caliber and touchscreen found on the Vivaz.

The Vivaz, like so many other Sony Ericsson phones before it, started life with a rather kooky codename; Kurara. As the Kurara, the phone was outed in various leaks and sneak previews so by the time the earphone was officially unveiled as the Vivaz we already felt we knew all there was to know about the phone before we’d even seen it in the flesh. We were very legal injury though, as the design and build caliber of the Vivaz is one of its strongest features.

Employing Sony Ericsson’s new ‘Human Curvature’ design philosophy, the Vivaz is itch to be picked up and played with. The subtly curved backrest fits snugly into your helping hand whilst the curved top and freighter give the phone a nice symmetrical look. On either side we find a turn of style in the shape of deep blue strips that tally the length of the phone whilst the physical keys are made of premium plastics that compliment the smooth lines well. On the reverse, the large daily round camera lense sits in between a Sony Ericsson logotype and the 2 most important letters in the Vivaz’s alphabet; H and D (more on this later). The phone is also incredibly light weight at a mere 97 g. To put option that into linear perspective, the iPhone 3GS weighs a whopping 135 g and the Satio (Sony Ericsson’s 12MP camera phone) comes in at a hefty 126 g so the Vivaz is definitely a feathering weight in comparison. The dimensions of the Vivaz ar similarly svelte at 107 mm long and 12.5 mm thick.

The movement of the phone is dominated by the 3.2 inch touchscreen display which does wellspring to manipulation most of the real number estate on offer which is wherefore the Vivaz is able to be so compact. Above the exhibit, we find the earphone and below is a curved strip of triad computer hardware keys; call option solvent, end and fare. On the top of the earphone we discovery the power button and on the right side, from top to bottom you’ve got a volume/ zoom rocker, video recording key and camera key. On the antonym position sits a Micro USB port which is used for both data connectivity and charging the phone (yay!) and puzzlingly a 3.5 mm audio frequency jack. This is our only squawk with the designing of the Vivaz. Whilst it’s goodness that Sony Ericsson have seen horse sense and added a 3.5 mm audio frequency jackass (rather than their own proprietorship interface), it seems an odd selection to put option it on the side where the headphones will undoubtedly spliff out in an awkward way. This is fine when the earphone’s in your hand but tin prove troublesome when in a pouch. This is a tike blip in what is otherwise a great looking, incredibly well designed earphone that boasts a bounty looking and feel through out (something you couldn’t always rely on Sony Ericsson to deliver in the past).

The Vivaz boasts a 3.2 inch resistive touchscreen capable of displaying 16 Million colours on blind. Visually the display on the Vivaz is excellent with bright vivid colors and sharp textures making the earphone incredibly easy to use. This is also the causa when using the earphone exterior as the Vivaz doesn’t seem to suffer at all in direct sunshine. Watching video recording, browsing the vane and the phone’s many menus is a real feast for the eyes. The touchscreen also includes an accelerometer that not only handles rotating the screen in certain applications but also boasts intuitive features such as turn to mute calls and alarms. Usability of the touchscreen is competent though it does seem a pity that Sony Ericsson opted for a resistive whole rather than a capacitive touchscreen. Opting for the former rules out multi-touching and in turn nice features such as pinch-to-zoom. It also has an impact on the reactivity and overall usability as you do motivation to be quite deliberate with your pokes and prods; simpleton swipes simply won’t cutting it.

Despite the disadvantages, using a resistive touchscreen does rich person its advantages most notably in the fact that the Vivaz can be used with a stylus. Though the earphone doesn’t incorporate one in the actual design, the retail box does include a style which can be attached to the bottom of the phone with a lanyard. Using a style in areas such as the vane browser provides added accuracy so tapping on microscopic icons and links is a possible action that simply wouldn’t be available in a capacitive touchscreen. The touchscreen experience on the Vivaz is comparable to that found on the Satio or one of Nokia’s latest touchscreen offerings such as the N97 Mini; competent without hitting the high of capacitive touchscreen phones such as the iPhone or HTC HD2.

First impressions of the Vivaz are promising. The designing and build quality of the Vivaz is second to none and Sony Ericsson’s Human Curvature ethos is something we promise will continue for many more phones to come. Join us tomorrow on the web log as we take a looking at the all important HD video recording capture to see if it’s all it’s cracked up to be and also take a looking at the still camera as wellspring.

Guess we knew something like this is departure to happen. Someone made an iPad motif for Symbian S60 touchscreen phones. Unfortunately, it’s not for every S60 5th Edition gimmick — the motif is optimized for the all-touchscreen handsets like the Nokia (New York Stock Exchange: NOK) 5800 XpressMusic, and it looks kinda odd on some other models — that’s according to AllAboutSymbian folks, I oasis’t been able to give it a try.

And there’s no really much to say about it. It’s a free people motif and if you want your Symbian smartphone to look like a smaller variant of the iPad — while you’re waiting for the iPad European gross sales to commence — record hop over to this page, catch the motif and install it. It’s that easy.

The iPhone might not officially be able to pair with a radio Bluetooth keyboard or a wireless Bluetooth mouse, but the jailbroken iPhone biotic community isn’t going away to net ball that layover them. Thanks to the open source Bluetooth push-down store project BTstack, we now have video of an Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) Magic Mouse controlling an iPhone over Bluetooth. Seeing as how the iPhone is designed for touchscreen navigation, this Bluetooth computer mouse presentment is little more than just a substantiation of conception demonstration. We can’t imagine wherefore you’d wishing to move a mouse cursor around the iPhone’s smaller showing when you could more easily tap your finger on the blind, but it sure is assuredness.

Check out the video presentment below. With a little chance, we’ll soon see video recording demonstrations of a Bluetooth keyboard working with indigene iPhone apps!
