Communications Workers of America (CWA) President Larry Cohen today told a Congressional control panel that the proposed amalgamation between AT&T and T-Mobile volition accelerate broadband deployment, benefit consumers, and positively impingement employees.

“At the end of these inquiries, we believe trine points volition become apparent,” Cohen said. “First, the AT&T/T-Mobile merger will accelerate high-speeding broadband exploitation. Second, the transaction volition positively impact consumers and finally, the merger volition welfare workers. Therefore, we believe the amalgamation should be approved.”

Cohen, speech production before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, noted how quadruplet years ago CWA had launched its nationwide Speed Matters campaign to highlight the importance of high gear speed broadband for America’s economic future. Telemedicine, distance acquisition and smarting grids are among the evolving technologies with enormous potential, but today they remain unavailable to many Americans, particularly in rural and urban settings.

“They will remain beyond the grip of tens of billions of Americans unless we ar able to accelerate the development of truly high-speed wired and radio broadband networks. It is the job of the regulators to ensure this amalgamation clears the path for that exploitation,” Cohen said.

Cohen also noted that the track record clearly indicates that an AT&T/T-Mobile merger volition be better for consumers and contention than a T-Mobile/Sprint combining.

“AT&T is the only union wireless troupe. Past experience in major radio mergers indicates that employee issues can be managed through careful preparation and by returning overseas employment to this nation. This integration volition welfare both AT&T and T-Mobile workers,” Cohen said.
